What to Wear for Senior Pictures: A Guide for Guys

Senior year is a milestone, and your senior pictures should capture your personality, style, and confidence. As a senior photographer, I know how important it is to feel and look your best during your session. Choosing the right outfit can make a huge difference in how your photos turn out, so here are my top tips for what to wear for your senior pictures.

1. Stick to Classic, Timeless Looks

While trends come and go, classic styles always look great. A well-fitted button-down shirt, a nice pair of jeans or chinos, and neutral-colored polos are always a safe bet. You’ll want to look back at your photos years from now and still love how you dressed.

2. Choose Colors That Flatter You

Stick to solid colors or subtle patterns that complement your skin tone and make your eyes stand out. Earth tones, blues, and neutral shades work well for most guys. Avoid overly bright neon colors or loud graphics that can be distracting in your photos.

3. Layer Up for Variety

Layers add depth and dimension to your photos. Consider bringing a jacket, blazer, or sweater to throw over your outfit for a few shots. A denim or leather jacket can add a cool, effortless vibe, while a blazer can create a more polished, formal look.

4. Show Off Your Personal Style

Your senior photos should reflect who you are! If you love a sporty look, bring your letterman jacket or favorite team jersey. If you prefer a more rugged style, a flannel shirt and boots might be the way to go. Just make sure your outfit choices feel authentic to you.

5. Pay Attention to Fit and Comfort

Baggy clothes can look sloppy, and overly tight clothes can feel uncomfortable. Choose outfits that fit well and make you feel confident. If needed, try on your outfits ahead of time to ensure they fit properly and look good from all angles.

6. Don’t Forget the Details

Accessories can add a nice touch to your outfit. A stylish watch, a belt, or a simple chain necklace can elevate your look without being too distracting. Avoid anything too flashy or trendy that might take away from your face in the photos.

7. Bring a Variety of Outfits

Most senior sessions allow for multiple outfit changes, so take advantage of it! Bring a mix of casual, semi-formal, and fun outfits to show different sides of your personality.

8. Shoes Matter Too!

Don’t overlook your footwear. Clean, stylish shoes that match your outfit will pull your whole look together. Sneakers, boots, or dress shoes are all great options—just avoid overly worn-out or distracting footwear.

9. Plan for the Season and Location

Dress appropriately for the season and setting of your shoot. If your session is in the fall, layering with a sweater or jacket can look great. For summer sessions, breathable fabrics and lighter colors work best. Think about how your outfit will complement the background of your photos.
